Research Project Objective
This is a research infographic that required me to find source material and highlight injustices faced by the Native Hawaiians. I split the pages into sections discussing their culture, general information, recent issues faced in the community, and resources for viewers to continue to do their research. By posting a complex issue, I hoped to spread awareness and bring voices to the Pacific Islander community, specifically the Native Hawaiians.
Research & Discovery
To gather accurate and representative information, I read books by Native Hawaiian activists, which had dense details for me to work with. Keeping that in mind, I wanted to include a summary of key information and encourage viewers to use the center’s library to read more.
Brainstorming
After conducting research, I categorized all the information to cut out extra points since there was a limit to how much information could fit. This helped me organize which key points to include and cut out unnecessary information. In addition, we needed to keep in mind the maximum number of bullet points to write per square. What helped me was finding a purpose per square which had subjects such as a list of activists, the general sovereignty movement, and much more.
Final thoughts
In a research-heavy project, I realized the importance of learning to take the important points to convey the message to the viewers. After posting the infographic, the account garnered support from organizations who advocate for the Native Hawaiian Community thanks to the conveyed message and how the visuals enhanced a better understanding of each point.
