Recruitment Week Flyers
Every semester, there’s a Recruitment Week where professional fraternities advertise their organization to newcomers such as incoming freshmen or folks who’ve heard but are too shy to come forth. As the VP of Public Relations, I had to create a marketing campaign in the social media and traditional marketing sphere. The flyer above required all the information to be condensed including dates of the recruitment events, contact information, and the theme to grab students’ attention.
Brainstorm & Ideation
I worked with the Senior Vice President on brainstorming themes to use. We wanted a catchy phrase to implement Greek letters into the design. We decided on the Pokemon franchise (from Pokemon Go) to use the famous line, “ I choose you!” We used elements based on the Pokemon types to make the recruitment events unique.
Project Design
I used Adobe Photoshop to make a realistic and bright version of the sketches for a professional approach. I borrowed elements from the Pokemon Go advertisements and customized the typography to the organization’s brand. After finalizing the details, I went to the print shop to get 300 copies for tabling.
Social Media Content
Over the course of six months as VP of Public Relations, I took initiation to organize a marketing comittee and brainstorm together different social media campagins to showcase our organization’s core values. In total, we mange posting content of five series for an active Instagram profile.
Brainstorm & Ideation
First, I organized all the ideas into a list with all the details. Some where previous series that I wanted to improve on and others where new ones that I thought would show a different side to Delta Sigma Pi.
Management
After creating templates, I assigned each project to a teammate, giving deadlines and expectations to be met. Implementing a system helped everyone communicate and be clear on what tasks to do. In addition, I managed to organize what to post in the Instagram format and schedule the dates to do so.
Final thoughts
Compared to previous years, it was the most the profile has posted consistently and resulted in a lot of engagement. I realized the importance of implementing a system with a committee had made producing large amounts of content a lot easier. In terms of leadership skills, it highlighted how much communication and constant check-ins can make the process of creating marketing campaigns effortlessly.
Fraternity Banner
Regarding tabling or doing events, we didn’t have a proper sign to indicate that we were a professional fraternity or to show our logo and colors. Outside of my role as VP of Public Relations, I decided to go the extra mile and create a banner to make in-person outreach and marketing easier.
Brainstorm & Ideation
I created multiple designs to incorporate the logo, colors, and composition differently each time. I asked myself how I would want newcomers to view the organization as first impressions are very important and took in a lot of references on how Greek Life promotional material would look like. After researching, I put a spin on making it feel business professional with the selection of fonts and muted color palettes.
Final product and thoughts
In the end, the organization voted for the third banner which is visually eye-catching. The letters were enlarged and bolded to allow people walking by to see from afar. Another helpful aspect is the added subtext including the English spelling of the Greek letters and the organization’s values for people not familiar with Greek life culture. Overall having the banner printed was a tiny investment that improved so much in terms of convenience for tabling and events.
